Pros
One of the best reasons to work there is promotional opportunities. If you put forth the effort, and remain diligent, you will get promoted. From working a billion other jobs, don't expect CVS to be totally different. You scratch my back and make me look good, I will do the same for you. If you do bad, well things may not go the way you intend. But I love working for CVS because if the work ethic is there and you want to move up, the possiblities are endless. It may take sometime, because as you move up, the spots are not readily available, but a word from the right person can put you first in line.
Cons
The downside to working for CVS is the work/life balance. You very well can get the promotion and make the money, but you will be working a lot of hours. Managers are required to work at least 45 hours, and depending on the environment, easily 50-60 hours a week. Sometimes even more depending on how well your staff is. Another downside is your salary. I am happy with what I make, but I know of a few people who don't make the same and that makes me feel like if they can take advantage and get you at a salary below the minimum, they will. The only positive side to that is if you work in a busier store, you will make more money. A slower store, less money.
