Pros

Smart, affable colleagues. Extremely high work quality. Strong salaries comparable to corporate consulting. Some prestigious clients.

Cons

Too many external hires at engagement manager and associate levels instead of promoting from within. Disparity in promotion timelines and status given to so-called "pure strategy" work versus behavior change work even though the latter is also heavy on strategy. No clear rewards for going beyond core duties of our role (with BD, mentoring younger colleagues or producing papers that build the field). Culture still focused around us here at Seattle HQ despite obvious growth in business importance of SF and Paris offices. Not much fluidity with staffing across the 3 offices. Heavy ongoing focus on health sector leaves little capacity to grow opportunities in other pressing impact areas in which the firm's functional expertise would be invaluable. Unclear what firm's end impact is due to lack of follow-up with implementing organizations once strategies have been delivered.

Pros

Intellectually stimulating and meaningful work in the social impact sector. Good pay relative to other social impact Consulting companies. Small but entrepreneurial with the ability to quickly make change within projects and within the organization. Visible and active commitment to equity long before it was popular and after the government crackdown. The company does hold people accountable for doing high quality work, so a lot of the negative comments here are from people who were held accountable.

Cons

Still relatively small so does not have the infrastructure the bigger firms have. The company has a lot of growing to do still to strengthen how it operates. The sole focus on social impact can mean greater volatility compared to management consulting which can even out ups and downs with commercial business. The benefit of course is you will never be asked to increase the sale of opioids. Definitely take the time to know the company and its strengths and growing needs to make sure it is the right choice for you.
