Pros

You get a lot of experience, from project initiation to completion.

Cons

You'll learn a little of everything which is great in the long run, but doesn't really help if you want to master design/project management/transportation planning. There are no pay raises if you continuously go above and beyond. So the pay you start off with better be good for, at least, the next 8 years or so. There is so much work with little staff. The problem doesn't stem from the department itself, but rather the lack of personnel, resources, and support.

Pros

I enjoyed helping the community at the beach and felt a sense of fulfillment in saving lives, The opportunity to learn advanced skills and take on higher responsibilities boosted my confidence in stressful situations, The job allowed me to gain valuable experience as a lifeguard, contributing to both my personal growth and professional development, I appreciated the beach environment and the camaraderie with my colleagues.

Cons

Some of the leadership roles were filled by individuals with little leadership experience, which led to a sense of superiority and caused tension within the team, There was a lack of support and collaboration from certain leaders, which made it difficult to feel supported in my role, Cameron County Beach Patrol could have been more involved with community outreach and education, particularly with schools and local events, The department wasn’t as engaged with charitable causes or community-building events, which could have strengthened its public image, and a lot of micromanagement.
