Pros

Very good at recruiting and creates a recruiting “Ponzi scheme” where employing Stanford and MBB people makes it easier to recruit more of them. Company has lots of money, people generally are friends with one another (though also fairly cliquey).

Cons

This is a pretty bad job all things considered if you’re in an ambitious part of your career and looking to learn a lot from smart people. Very much a culture and approach from management where who says something matters far more than what they say. Very bureaucratic and works very similar to a F500 type of company . Some people are smart for sure, but others are literally former librarians who don’t know how to use basic spreadsheets. It can be very painful to work with those types. I legitimately feel dumber from working here. There is no promotional path here. Try talking to management about this and you will not get a clear answer at all. People used to move across departments, which they like to highlight, but that was a very different time for the company where it was smaller. Comp wise, you basically can expect to make whatever you come in as , which they adjust for inflation if you get a really good review. The “strategy” part in the title of this time is entirely misleading (and note they sometimes call this role Strategy and Operations, Customer Operations, Customer Strategy and operations. It is all the same.) This is account management. There is no strategy about it. I gurantee you there are people on that team who could not define strategy in managerial positions. The other person here was right: you literally teach frontline billers how to use this software and answer their questions. It’s not transferable. It’s not interesting. And it’s certainly not pleasant. The other interesting dynamic here is the “center” of the company is truly engineering and product . The poorly named “strategy” group is more of a support function. To be fair, this is probably what you need to have at a software company. But this type of setup really limits the type of growth you can get. This group also has abnormally high churn for the size and time it’s been around ( they’ve hired a ton so it’s masked), which says a lot about it. At the end of the day though it is a 9-5 so if you want a job that isn’t a career, maybe for you (and if that’s you absolutely no judgement). I just really do think that the caliber of talent we manage to get could get significantly better jobs elsewhere.

Pros

- No shortage of complex technical problems, product space is very complex so the work never feels routine or boring - Talent bar is really high, everyone is super impressive and fun to work with - Culture is very collaborative, both across engineer teams and across other functions of the business. Engineering culture in particular I find to be great. - High ownership. This is the type of company that you’d thrive in if you want to have a big impact and take on a lot of responsibility. - It feels as though everyone is united around the mission and working together to achieve a common goal. Motivating environment. - A lot of the fun startup perks: off sites, company parties/ social events, shutdown period during the winter holidays - Despite the intense work culture, everyone encourages one another to take care of themselves and there’s a healthy culture around taking PTO

Cons

- Getting ramped up is very fast, but due to the high expectations and complex problem space the first few months are pretty stressful. Does not necessarily get less stressful with time, since the more you learn the more responsibilities you are given. This could be a pro for some and a con for others depending on what you're looking for - Not everything is well documented (although there’s a strong push to improve this) can be blocked by specific questions or requests that only a few people can help with

Pros

This company is a rocket ship: growing fast and generating a ton of impact for our customers. For an early stage startup with less than 200 employees the quality of people you get to work with is through the roof. Highly motivated, talented team members across every function that know what good looks like and are working to build it. Revenue growth and investment backing are very strong in an environment where many startups are lacking in both.

Cons

It's truly a startup: there's a lot of ambiguity at times, the pace is faster than even companies that claim to 'move fast' and the bar for execution is high - it's not for everyone. If you're not good at advocating for yourself or navigating a world without a map, you'll find this environment to be extremely challenging - organizational velocity is lagging business velocity in a lot of areas.
