Carnahan Proctor Cross

Is this your company?

No follow through at the highest levels. - Project Engineer Carnahan Proctor Cross Employee Review

Pros

Even though the staff is dwindling, there were some good people to work with that have been in the business for a long time. The FDOT inspection department is always busy and they are also insulated from the higher management by the VP of the department. If you work in that department you will be shielded from from the problems of the rest of the company and will likely enjoy your time at CPC.

Cons

Lack of respect for the employees and lack of professional leadership skills are two of the main problems sinking this company. People are brought on with smiles, handshakes and promises of big things and after a few months it becomes apparent that it's all a charade. Compensation is low comparably to other companies, performance based incentives are not followed through with and bonuses are non-existant. Also, attempting to bring cleints with you often turns out bad as management will often circumvent you early on and blow your chances with them making you look bad as well. Everything is horribly outdated in the company offices from the computers, to the software, to the constantly broken down vehicles, to the furniture, to the managements business model.

Pros

No need to go above and beyond for tasks Most of the time doesn’t go beyond 40 hours

Cons

I worked at this company as an entry level project engineer and did not have a positive experience. If you are considering a role as an entry-level engineer or project engineer, I would strongly advise caution. Based on my experience and the previous reviews, the company appears to regularly hire young EITs or recent graduates for short periods (typically 6 months to a year), then let them go under the explanation that there is not enough work or that more experienced staff are needed. This happens despite them providing little to no training to develop those skills. This churn-and-burn approach appears to be driven by saving money during brief slowdowns, rather than work on investing in junior engineers. Management was consistently disrespectful toward staff. Employees are talked down to, interrupted, and discouraged from asking questions. I was yelled at for asking for help. The management feedback often leaves you feeling undermined rather than supported. I would only recommend joining this company if you are in urgent need of employment and are prepared to leave within a year. Raises and bonuses don’t happen despite performance. The existing reviews suggest there is little intention from leadership to improve these issues
