Just No. It's not worth it. - Sales Person Carpet Call Employee Review

Pros

Nearly every store manager I worked with was great. They try hard to get you to the targets set by upper management so you can get your commission. Good training in the products and sales techniques.

Cons

The targets are unrealistic for all but the busiest stores. You make minimum wage unless you hit those targets, as commission isn't paid out unless you do. You're expected to work 6 days a week (with some stores doing all 7 days) starting time of at least 8am (and pushed to start earlier), with my finishes varying wildly from 9pm to 1am. Time off is an issue, as all of the stores are under staffed. There is a terrible culture of "making money for your family is more important than time with them" among upper management, who finish early every day and don't work weekends. You use your own vehicle, and must pay for your own fuel. Managers get a fuel card, but don't do the driving that sales people do. They hire people in batches, and when I left, of the 5 who started with me, I was the last to leave. People burn out and quit all the time, and those working in nearby stores are expected to cover those positions as well as their own. Carpet Call also over price products, and then almost bully customers into buying the product with sales tactics. I felt dirty after every appointment as I was told to tell customers things like: "This is the last roll, if you don't buy it there isn't any more for 6 months" when our warehouse was fully stocked with the product. Lastly: If a family member is sick, you will be expected to stay at work. My wife was sick enough that I called in and asked for the day off and was told "I needed to commit more to work". I left because that week I had spend well over 80 hours at work, and being told to commit more over my family was the last straw. It's not worth working for them.
