Pros
Competitive pay and benefits and work-life balance.
Cons
Year ago, Carrier bought a company in India, HRDC, and has been replacing its American software, controls, and hardware engineers with Indian workers there. This has been going on for 7-10 years now. They did it to my coworkers in Syracuse and Farmington, Connecticut, and some in Charlotte, NC too. This allows them to get around H1B visa quotas, because those low-salary Indian employees are working from India - no H1B needed! Same result though - American jobs going away. They forced out our competent managers who didn't like that plan, and we're left with the bozos that sheepishly towed the line. Now they're sourcing cheap hardware boards from China, instead of using the boards that our local Hardware Engineering team designed. Carrier's upper management in Commercial HVAC is a bunch of clowns. Never-ending hiring freezes, spending freezes, travel bans, and finger-pointing for anything that goes wrong. The marketing managers are clueless too - telling Engineering that they have to work "harder, longer, and faster". The Engineering and QA people who got replaced or transferred or took the early retirement package, we are the lucky ones - because we don't have to be there anymore. I talk with my friends who are still there, and it has only gotten worse. Can't recommend working at Carrier to anyone who isn't a masochist.
