Pros

- CARTO is extremely meritocratic - those who work hard and get results are empowered to grow by their managers and given opportunities - Truly global, the company brings together the best of US and European work culture - Extremely friendly, smart and motivated colleagues make the company feel like a family (in a good way) - there's plenty of social stuff to get involved with - A strong exec team with significant experience in SaaS and GIS for less experienced employees to learn from - The company is willing to make tough decisions to keep growing, as well as being open and honest about that to employees - the CEO is very transparent about changes in strategy - CARTO invests in its employees, allowing you to travel to things like an annual company offsite in Malaga or Valencia or industry events - The company is not too hierarchical and people with a big ego wouldn't get on well here - CARTO has great ethics as a company, which comes from top down (e.g. we don't sell to the Oil and Gas or Defence industry) - Senior leadership are totally approachable - Extremely flexible policy about working from home or other locations, as well as encouraging you to take time off if you're unwell - The company follows a policy of smart frugality - meaning that resources are used on the things that are important and make sense (which is refreshing after working in a big corporate where this wasn't the case)

Cons

- The office vibe and spirit is better in Madrid than in other offices, but that's due to the numbers of people in each office (and they are working to improve this)

Pros

Maps are really cool and the product was interesting. Remote first.

Cons

The leadership team is lost. The company is 10 years old and struggling to find its sales positioning or growth. Startups need to grow to live….I’m not convinced there is any vision or competitive spirit to win in the space or set their employees up for success. The leadership will blame you, and then ensure you are out the door and take no accountability. This is not a company I would recommend. I would look at the tenure of the senior leaders as a representation of the current state of affairs.
