Excellent Work-Life Balance & Great Benefits - Finance Manager Catholics for Choice Employee Review

We have a new president who's spent the last 3 years completely transforming the org, and there's almost nobody left at the organization who worked under the previous leadership. Pros: 1) The benefits are incredible — from half-day Fridays, to excellent health insurance coverage, to unlimited PTO that people actually take... You're just not going to find better benefits at a reproductive health advocacy nonprofit. I have better benefits than many people I know with corporate jobs. 2) Senior leaders listen to employee feedback and adjust accordingly. They care a lot about meeting staff members' needs. 3) It's a queer-led organization with a very queer staff. 4) There's a lot of flexibility for employees to try new things and learn skills. 5) The work is BEYOND essential, and I feel like what I do has a direct impact on people.

1) The field of nonprofit reproductive rights advocacy is a hot mess due to current events. It's stressful, emotionally taxing work across the field. At CFC we talk a lot about how to avoid having a culture of burnout. 2) As a small organization of around 15, we're all in close proximity in terms of the work we're doing. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a workplace if you're the type of person who doesn't want to get to know their coworkers.

Unique and important organization with a long history and lots of potential. Clear communications manual and talking points to help staff maintain consistency, especially on some of the tougher issues.

Below market salaries, lack of clear strategic vision, and intensely controlling executive management creates a toxic work environment. Highly inflexible leave and flex time policies are especially hard on employees with health concerns and/or families. Staff turns over almost annually as a result. I felt very insecure about my performance nearly every day since the standards seemed to constantly be changing and colleagues were let go due to personality clashes, not performance.
