Pros

The pay. That’s it. They lure you in with some of the top pay in the country for your role (so they say); however, factor in the knowledge that you are required to work 60+ hours a week (including weekends) but that 80 hours is the expectation. They only acknowledge and respect people who are forced to log in on their wedding day to handle something, as an example. So is the pay really that good when you cut in half for being over worked? No.

Cons

Executive leaders don’t believe in diversity and inclusion and have proudly told everyone that. Little to no communication from leadership on anything (they try to combat this with a monthly mandatory company meeting where they share some things). Required to be on video every single day for every single meeting. The micro managing is so over the top that management stalks your calendar and tells you how to title meetings or when you’re allowed to schedule meetings/what days you’re allowed to schedule meetings. Overworked with no care for your wellbeing. Zero work life balance. “Unlimited PTO” is a scam when you’re judged for taking time off because there’s “so much work to do.” Most employees go 12+ months without taking a dedicated PTO day with no sort of tracking system for management to encourage employees to take time away. Unrealistic work expectations due to zero experience actually doing the job at the Executive level. Your job duties and role will change constantly. Your goals and metrics will also change weeks before they’re due to be finished/delivered (feels intentional to keep people from their bonuses). The hiring process is grossly discriminatory and borderline illegal, let alone all around an awful experience for some extremely top talent individuals. And the Product team is a joke; they say the nastiest things about different leaders and departments and promote a culture of division, superiority, and toxicity amongst each other. Made for a hostile and awkward work environment each day. You won’t be respected, valued, or able to do your job successfully most of the time, and they’ll encourage you to make it difficult for others to do their job out of spite or humor; it’s not that they consider you “just a number” but they do not respect anyone who doesn’t immediately jump through hoops to do exactly what they want in the very short timeframe they want it. The longest tenured people began leaving the company… the list goes on and on. Imagine the worst work environment you can - yep, that’s Cherry. Really.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and taking the time to write this review. Please see my thoughts below. On Work-Life Balance & Excessive Work Hours Cherry is no doubt a place for overachievers. However, working regularly 80 hours a week or weekends, is not, and has never been, the expectation. I’ve taken this feedback seriously and surveyed our team: no members of the Product team reported working over 80 hours a week; averages were reported at 50-60 hours. People at Cherry generally enjoy a high level of autonomy to structure their working hours, and we do our best to right-size goals to ensure balanced workloads. On Calendar Management and Meeting Schedules We understand the challenges of a fast-paced environment. To prevent meeting creep and allow everyone to maintain long periods of focus-time, we have 3 meeting-free days a week. I personally asked individuals to remove recurring events on such days to free up focus time for their own individual contributor work. On PTO Contrary to the claim, we do track PTO and do not discourage its use. On the Product team, I’m not aware of any PTO request ever having been denied and the average number of PTO days taken in the last year was 17 days. I support our team in taking necessary time off to recharge. On Changing Goals & Moving Targets Our dynamic startup environment sometimes requires adjustments to our goals. When this happens, we ensure team members are not unfairly penalized. Also, goal attainment has been high, the average bonus payout on the product team has been over 100% in the last 4 quarters. On Hiring I believe our hiring process is metrics-driven, fair, and focuses on recruiting top performers while providing candidates with equal opportunity: high achievers often thrive alongside each other, and this is the conducive environment I’m looking to build. This commitment to excellence has not led to a monoculture within our product team - which would in turn likely negatively impact the experiences we build for our customers. In fact, a large part of our product team comes from diverse backgrounds. On Team Culture I am proud of the collaborative and supportive environment at Cherry. We’ve had a low tolerance for toxic behavior and seek to take swift action against any such conduct. Our team’s cohesion and retention rates speak to this positive culture. In five years, only two people have left the product team: one voluntarily after five years and one involuntarily. Many of us here since day one are committed to our vision and values. This journey is much like a marathon. We prioritize outcomes while keeping an eye on work-life balance and embracing feedback to continuously improve. I remain open to discussing your experience further. Thank you again for your feedback. Charles Mourani, CTO & Co-Founder of Cherry Technologies

Pros

Fast paced company that is a major disruptor, continuing to win and grab market share at a monstrous pace. Ability to be in the room with the C-Suite team and conversations, which include decision making that usually most companies do not involve everyone in at all levels in. Great atmosphere if you like to win and love being challenged.

Cons

Need to be in a growth mindset of being able to pivot quickly. True start up mentality.
