Pros
-Decent benefits, Pension -Co workers treat people well and are competent in general -Good place to go before retirement as relaxed work style has minimum stress if you are not looking for an adequate salary. -Management gives plenty of vacation days (3 weeks).
Cons
-Pay is way below market average for comparable positions across the board. Management claims the pay scale are at market levels, however actual salary of most employees are at low end of scale so very few actually getting the mid points of their respective salary scale unless you have been working there for 10+ years. -City Managers office and council is constantly looking to cut existing benefits and shifting more costs to employees. -Be prepared for stagnating salaries or below industry standard raises even for employees that are rated well during performance evaluations. Many employees have gone several years without a raise even with good evaluation scores. -Low morale -No bonus structure for well performing employees -No 401k match program for retirement plan. -Very few career growth opportunities. -Ton of politics involved in promotions, promotions don't always go to most qualified candidate for position.
