BADLY MANAGED NOT A FORCE IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE WORD. - Police Constable Civil Nuclear Constabulary Employee Review

Pros

Shift pattern. Experienced instructors although a little out of date, due to them being retired and coming back as a trainer some time after, but the majority are still very knowledgable and helpful, and the training is good in places but too brief in others, although that's not down to the training staff who were good overall.

Cons

Badly managed, middle management dont really have any guidance they seem to make it up as they go along, it's more like a Military outfit rather than a modern police Constabulary, which is good in a military environment I'm not knocking that, but it most certainly isn't a Constabulary, it should be an agency and shouldn't be called a Constabulary. They also have no way of recording any crime no systems at all, which is odd. They also have an understaffed and badly managed HR and pay department, that constantly got things wrong, I could go Into detail on many different things but this is not the place to do so, but it was enough for me to take the time to write a review. I am a full time HO PC and have experienced other forces, one similar to the CNC which was much better, because they knew who they were, the CNC however do not, and should really rethink its position and have a more focused approach to its image, it seems to be undecided in what it should be, and therefore not really being anything, it's a confused organisation, the officers within are generally well intentioned and good people, but really not police officers.

Pros

Very good practical training. Endless amounts of OT.

Cons

Closed shop if your outside of the west Cumbria bubble. SLT are generally clueless about regional differences across the UK. SLT will openly lie to your face and then get upset when you catch them. Some line managers will run a "do as I say, not as I do" culture. Trust no one! Especially sgt looking for evidence for the next promotion. If you see wrong doing, even if reported, will generally be kept in house and swept under the carpet. Get a side hustle or online learning as the 12hr nights will drag. Don't join thinking you'll do police work, your an armed security guard. Join your local force instead. None of the qualifications you pass are recognised by HO forces and none will allow you to transfer either due to lots of backroom handshake by former Chiefs. The majority of lower level SLT (Inspector to Chief Super) have never been cops with most spending their entire service at Sellafield. o Over superintendent level they generally come in following retirement from HO forces to top up their pension, so don't expect earth shattering reforms.
