Pros

32.7% Fringe Benefit rate! This includes the famous tuition exemption for you, spouse, and children from primary school through graduate. No one can beat this perk which allows you to develop and grow as a human being and professional. Plus CU has numerous classes and on-line venues to access at your leisure and still receive credit.

Cons

CU often employees Directors who have less of an education or little-to-no knowledge of their teams responsibilities. Many qualified people leave CU because their immediate leadership is insecure, is less credentialed, and/or does not support staff development. CU has yet to develop a culture of "having experts on your team" to make you success and in turn them successful...and then letting them leave the nest if they so desire without feelings of bitterness.

Pros

The benefits and work-life balance were generally reasonable.

Cons

The Internal Audit department was one of the most disappointing work environments I have experienced. Columbia promotes a culture of collaboration, trust, and support, but that was not reflected in my experience. Leadership micromanaged employees to an excessive degree, especially on work-from-home days. If you stepped away from your computer for a few minutes, it felt like you had to justify your whereabouts. Rather than encouraging employees to learn and grow, management often made people feel foolish for asking questions or not knowing something immediately. The atmosphere was stressful, morale was low, and trust between leadership and staff was virtually nonexistent. I would not recommend this department to anyone seeking a supportive or professional work environment.
