Great Place to Work - Peacemaker Community Action Stops Abuse Employee Review

Pros

The mission underlying everything gives purpose to the work you do everyday. Being a Peacemaker allows you to start DV prevention early and it was just a really fun job. Incredible benefits as well.

Cons

Always felt a huge divide between shelter staff and administrative staff that left a lot of employees feeling unappreciated especially for the low pay.

Pros

The children and families I worked with were amazing. The staff is also unmatched in kindness and encouragement. The benefits are also outstanding and affordable but I was a single person.

Cons

Administration always seemed more interested in earning more money over the actual mission but at the core I knew they were good people and the money was to better serve the organization as a whole. The pay is VERY low for a position that requires a bachelors and they told us we would never receive a raise.

Pros

I don’t have any to offer.

Cons

Management in Shelter (and even in Rapid Rehousing) are toxic and clique. Favoritism by management among shelter staff, is a problem. The turnover is very high. No appreciation or recognition is provided to case managers by upper management. The amount of work expected during your shift, is not worth the ridiculous amount of pay. If you aren't in the clique, then you are definitely the topic of daily gossip among everyone, at some point. Working here is stressful and takes a toll on your mental health because of the high level of gossip, toxicity, and lack of support from management. The CEO should be more involved with daily operation of the shelter.
