Pros

The environment is generally relaxed as long as you don't make an error. Some of the employees there are good people trying to make a living.

Cons

When I was offered the position I was told that I would be a full time employee. Unfortunately on my first day I was informed that I would be working for and compensated for 37.5 hours per week rather than 40. Many of the employees, especially the new, are working 37.5 hours per week. This is fair in the sense that Fair Labor Standards Act doesn't define "full time". Frequently the work load required more time than 7.5 hours per day. When this occurred I had to stay to finish my work past the 7.5 hours. If I left "on time" I would have been reprimanded for doing a poor job. I was never compensated for this extra time spent working because it wasn't "approved" by management. Clock in and clock out times are documented with a software program and a time sheet is generated for each pay period. Any time over 75 hours for 2 weeks work was not payed for. This is company wide. Performance was measured by my daily totals of emails sent, phone calls made, updates made, etc. against amounts set by management. Less than 10% of employees would meet or exceed the monthly totals expected. Those that did exceed were offered bonuses less than $100. I worked at Construction Journal for over 2 years and was not once offered a pay raise. I knew several other employees that had worked for over 4 years without a pay raise. Management doesn't perform performance reviews unless you are below your daily goals. I have heard about an employee requesting a pay raise after 3 years of working and was made to talk to the president of the company. The president told this employee that they weren't going to get a pay raise because they were not meeting their daily goals. There are many other grievances that I have with this company. I didn't burn my bridge when I left, but I will not return if I am unemployed.
