Pros

Where do I start here? The only real pro here is the flexible working. Pay is ok, but way behind other companies, which is bizarre because Covea were trying to be a super duper software powerhouse.

Cons

Never have I worked where the level of hubris defies all expectations. After a period of neglecting their current systems and attempting to "disrupt" the insurance market, which is just laughable given the team tasked with it knew nothing about insurance. The chickens have come home to roost. The fools who devised this doom thankfully jumped ship before the whole house of cards came tumbling down. Now, people who have worked their way through the company are being let go. It's technically a bonfire of the vanities. Systems are a mess through years of "quick fixes". With the remaining management realising things need to be addressed. In the end there are important lessons to learn from this. 1. If some tech "guru" has the tagline of "transforms", "distrupts" or any other buzzword, then do not listen to them and remember we are an insurance company...that's it. 2. Don't neglect current systems and don't expect to rest on your laurels 3. Stop pretending you are a silicon valley super power. You aren't. 4. Don't expect engineers to stick around.

Pros

The people make the job, every team I’ve worked in has been amazing. Everyone is genuinely lovely and so helpful when you need them, no question is ever too silly to ask. The training is good as well and you’re usually sent a copy to make sure you understand what you’re doing. They do actually care about your welfare too which is nice and quite rare.

Cons

Can be very relentless, you come off one call and are straight into the next. Sometimes it feels like taking a break in a busy period is a bit of an inconvenience. Some managers I’ve worked with have been a bit unprofessional. Progression opportunities seem to be few and far between.
