Transitioning Away from a People-Focused Model - Managing Consultant CrossCountry Consulting Employee Review

Pros

Work-life balance is decent compared to larger consulting firms, and you can meet some really great people here. Ability to get staffed on projects that align with your interests.

Cons

CC was previously a great place to work, especially when the focus was on its people and strong company culture. However, recent changes in leadership and priorities seems to have introduced a different approach, which has shifted the culture in a way that feels far less people-oriented. While the new leaders bring valuable experience and business opportunities, their approach seems to diverge from CC's original core values. The atmosphere, which used to feel warm, caring, and personable, has become faster-paced, curt, and less relationship-driven. CC used to feel like a reprieve from the Big 4 environment but has increasingly started to feel more like the Big 4 environment. This feedback has been shared with leadership through various channels, though the response has largely reflected a lack of acknowledgment toward employees' concerns. While CC remains a decent place to work, it’s disappointing to witness the company move away from what once made it unique in the market and its commitment to delivering a "Better Experience."

Pros

Some colleagues demonstrated actual competence at their work.

Cons

• Senior staff controlled which people received high-profile assignments and advancement opportunities based on personal relationships rather than merit or performance • Colleagues outside the established inner circle were routinely overlooked for roles and projects while less experienced people with better connections moved ahead repeatedly • I brought relevant qualifications and took on difficult assignments, but my career progression stalled because I lacked the relationships that mattered for advancement • Career development conversations and advancement decisions happened without transparency or input from those being affected, determined entirely by people in charge • The organization made no effort to acknowledge the pattern of favoritism or implement systems that would ensure fair consideration for all employees
