Pros
CryoLife makes products that save actual lives and limbs. More than half of the "office" consists of R&D labs, tissue processing facilities, surgical theaters, and lecture space. It can be a fascinating place to work.
Cons
As a medical devices manufacturer that deal with donated human tissue, CryoLife is justifiably careful and cautious with all aspects of manufacturing, processing, storage, QA, testing, and shipment. They have literal books of processes for everything. Unfortunately, that mentality and control permeates all other aspects of the business as well. As an example, CryoLife is my only employer to require full-time, salaried office workers to clock in and out. Employees waste hours reading and signing off on process documentation that has nothing to do with their job roles. Rules, once imposed, are apparently never reconsidered or reevaluated. I found the corporate culture and management mindset to be needlessly paternalistic, inflexible, and conservative, to the point of being stifling.
