Pros
It has been a rewarding experience, gaining technical and industry expertise. Plenty of smart, driven, and young people make it a motivating environment Decent pay and benefits for the area Workload is for the most part manageable. Management usually respectful of work-life balance Ability to participate in conferences and networking and career opportunities
Cons
Politics or "business strategy" constantly gets in the way of sound engineering work. Upper management likes to change plans and shift projects around based solely on commercial wishes with little regard for consulting engineering to assess technical feasibility. This often leads to poor design work and potentially sloppy or poor quality products. A lot of "training" initiatives are meaningless as the best practices are not well implemented in the real work. Big corporation bureaucracy is everywhere. Promotion opportunities only in certain business sectors, requires people to shift roles a lot. Causes internal loss of experience.
