Pros
I had the pleasure of working at Cymbio for a few years, and gained many valuable insights on what processes contribute effectively to business value, and which do not. At it’s core, the technology Cymbio provides is nothing revolutionary, (as around 5-6 other large platforms currently do the same thing) - it is simply a developer shop providing various e-commerce automations, such as supplier to warehouse order fulfillment processing, as well as pricing and product automations. The main reason that Cymbio is alive and is doing well financially (compared to other self serve ecommerce automation platforms), is due to the special partnerships and business relations with many large apparel brands, and the aggressive sales team. Only 4-5 of the large brands Cymbio is partnered with contribute the majority of revenue to the company, and they receive the most care and attention. Echoing another review here- the product itself is very far from being a self serve platform, as every semi-large client requires a full time account manager to perform all the operations for them, as well as a support team constantly working overtime to handle and mitigate customer issues. The R&D team is very rigid with their processes of bringing a feature from product inception to production- many times at a detriment of providing any real business value. Many of the programmers are at a junior level, aside from the R&D management level and a few select individuals, and the codebase and amount of bugs entering production can show for this- but that is not the main issue. The main issue is how slow the development velocity is, how non self-sufficient the platform is, and how much manual intervention is required for every feature that Cymbio provides. With a few small changes in company structure and culture, the whole R&D team could easily be condensed to around 1/3 of the size- and in turn provide 10x of the value compared to what it is currently providing. In the end, I believe that there is potential for the company to become an industry standard in the ecommerce automation space, but after working there for sometime and for all the reasons i mentioned above, i cannot envision this happening with the current structure and state of the company any time soon. If this does not concern you, i would happily recommend Cymbio to anybody looking for a healthy work life balance, fun people, and overall good vibes in the office. There is also honesty lots of potential to grow professionally, and to provide an impact to the business- you just have to be willing to take the initiative to do so. Most of the team will listen to anyone with an open mind, and leadership and taking ownership is encouraged. There are definitely people with big egos, but this is nothing that doesn’t exist in any other companies. If you are assertive, are effective at communicating, and genuinely want what’s best for the team and the company, there is the very serious potential to help send the company to the moon.
Cons
If you are looking to invest time into a startup that is on a strong and healthy path towards becoming a unicorn, or if working on a system that is stagnant will bother you, then i would suggest to look elsewhere
