Pros
Yesterday was my last day at Dish, and I am truly disappointed to be leaving. I started my work at Dish in the international programming and marketing department where we acquire international content rights. I worked between NYC and Denver, and sometimes had to travel to meet international broadcasters who Dish distributed. I had to deal with international business people from a variety of cultures and countries. I worked with our legal team to define programming contracts, and we were constantly trying to build future-proof contracts that would allow for new technologies and ways to deliver content. I got to work on some big contracts and negotiate directly with providers with the support of my manager. I gained experience in big media, pay television, international property rights, and contract negotiation. My managers encouraged innovative, critical thinking and were open to new ideas. I think i'll continue to see them at industry events. Because of contacts, relationships, and my experience developed at Dish, I got a new job in NYC!
Cons
Sometimes there was tension between the international teams and the general marketing department. Since the international markets are small and the subscribers to these packages are limited, some of our projects were on the back burner. I felt a little bit siloed in the international department. Pay is sub-competitive.
