Circling the drain - Manager DXP Enterprises Employee Review

Pros

The pay isn't terrible when oil & gas is up. It's standard for the industry. 8-5 with minimal overtime. Little oversight.

Cons

Aside from the pay, you won't find a worse place to work. Management has absolutely no idea of what they're doing. They took people from similar companies and gave them more money to do a worse job. They're behind the curve on every trend and have no way of getting more customers. They'll screw anyone over if it saves their job. The best employees get laid off or fired because they're actually being paid a wage that supports their performance. The middle and upper management can't stand to see a dime taken from their checks, so they fire and lay off subordinates to negate the inevitable bankruptcy of the company. Ideas are shunned in place of outdated practices. Verbal agreements and promises are made haphazardly with management's intent to never follow through. People with sense quit for better jobs but are then sued for competing with DXP. They pursue employees and companies legally but don't feel they should have to uphold their own legal obligations. (search DXP vs. Goulds). All in all, if you're the worst type of person, this is the place to be. The only way to move up in the company or get a raise is to make sure you get your co-workers fired.

Pros

I have worked for DXP for 15 years, and it has been a great place to build a career. The company has consistently invested in my training and professional development, allowing me to gain valuable experience and pursue my entrepreneurial spirit. One of the things I appreciate most is the culture. There is a strong sense of constructive accountability, and employees are trusted to take ownership of their responsibilities. Management has always been receptive to ideas and feedback, and I've had opportunities to contribute to improvements within my local branch. DXP strikes a balance that works well for me: it is highly results-driven without being overly bureaucratic. Although it is a large publicly traded company, local branches often maintain a personal, family-business atmosphere. Employees wear many hats, which creates opportunities to learn different aspects of the business and develop a broad skill set.

Cons

DXP has a relatively flat organizational structure, which can make upward career progression more challenging than at larger organizations with multiple management layers. The company is also not as widely recognized as many Fortune 500 companies. Because of this, attracting and retaining top talent often requires additional effort and involvement at the local level.
