Pros

- The food and tea - A lot of smart engineers on other teams

Cons

As a security analyst I was extremely overworked and under-appreciated. It was not just that I was doing menial work, filling out customer questionnaire after customer questionnaire for example, it was that I was treated as less than other members of the team. Whenever the opportunity arose to be exposed to anything technical, that door was quickly closed with copious condescension. The security engineers that joined after me left as soon as they could too, 3 unhappy exits in a row on the same small team is not a coincidence. All these 'Best Place Ever' reviews seem written by HR. During the first few months people on the team were happy and we had heard that our overall team happiness rate from the employee survey was much higher than the rest of the company, clearly that did not last.

Pros

Datadog has a strong product, smart coworkers, and a fast paced environment that teaches you a lot quickly. I learned a tremendous amount about observability, technical discovery, outbound prospecting, and how modern engineering organizations operate. The company has also gives reps exposure to large accounts and technical conversations early in their careers.

Cons

The ramp for newer AEs can feel steep, especially in a hgihly competitive outbound environment. Success often depends on timing, territory, pipeline momentum, and consistent coaching. There can also be a significant pressure tied to activity metrics and pipeline generations, which may be difficult for reps still developing confidence and process consistency.
