Pros

Working at David Lawrence Center has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my career. DLC is an organization that not only talks about growth and innovation it actively invests in it. With the launch of Vision 2030, the momentum here is stronger than ever. The vision creates a clear pathway for expanding services, strengthening our workforce, and transforming the future of behavioral healthcare in Southwest Florida. You can genuinely feel and physically see the forward movement every day. Scott Burgess’ leadership is truly exceptional. His style of servant leadership sets the tone for the entire organization. Scott leads with compassion, humility, and has a genuine passion for improving behavioral health outcomes in our community. He consistently models integrity, transparency, and a deep care for both employees and the clients we serve. His vision has inspired a culture of accountability, unity, and purpose that makes DLC a standout employer. The Executive Leadership Team is equally strong and aligned, Committed, and fully engaged in driving DLC’s mission forward. They hold themselves and the organization to high standards while ensuring that employees have the support, resources, and encouragement needed to succeed. Their culture‑driven initiatives aren’t just talking points; they’re lived out in real, tangible ways that reinforce who we are and what we stand for. At DLC our mission: To provide life‑saving and life‑changing behavioral health care through education, treatment, and support comes alive in everything we do. Pros

I genuinely enjoyed some aspects of my role and the opportunity to build skills.

Cons

My experience at DLC ended under very perplexing and unprofessional circumstances. After recently asking for a raise, I was abruptly placed on a 'random' 90-day probation. The very next day, after I gave my two weeks' notice, the situation escalated dramatically. Upon arrival, all safe combinations were changed, and work tools were removed, preventing me from performing key aspects of my job. My manager proceeded to ignore me all day, instead asking coworkers to relay requests for me to train them on parts of my job. This felt like direct retaliation and was incredibly unprofessional. Ultimately, I was then told to leave immediately, with a vague explanation of 'information found out,' and that I'd be called back (which never happened). This sudden, dramatic exit meant I had no opportunity to say proper goodbyes to my colleagues, which was personally upsetting. What made this particularly frustrating was the stark inconsistency in how employees were managed. While I consistently performed well and received praise, I observed other coworkers engaging in non-work activities at their desks (like doing nails or watching Netflix), delegating their work to others, and running personal errands on company time. These behaviors seemed to go unchecked, and one coworker was even allowed to refuse certain tasks assigned by our manager. This made the sudden, unexplained probation and dismissal feel highly unfair and targeted, especially following my strong performance and raise request.
