Pros

The DY brand and David Yurman himself is a remarkable and talented artist. Compared to their counterparts, they are a relatively "young" jewelry brand, but they have been able to build a loyal customer base, and have established themselves as a renowned luxury brand. There are some truly creative and talented individuals in the middle management levels. A great name to have on your resume that allow for good networking. For those who like a small, entrepreneurial work environment, you will find that here. The Yurmans are very hands on in their work, so great opportunity to work with the artist himself. Good work/life balance. Pay is very competitive.

Cons

The experience working at DY really ranges, depending on the group that you work for. I'd say if you're on the production, merchandising or sourcing side, you might be better off. Stay away from Marketing & PR division at all costs if you can... it's so bad they're known INTERNALLY for being difficult and poorly run -- which really stems from severely underqualified upper management within that group. Most of their senior staff in general do not hold MBAs and often times lack relevant "big picture" experience AND leadership qualities that are necessary to successfully grow incremental revenue and keep their staff motivated and inspired. Although the company will continue to grow due to the fact they continue to produce beautiful designs, it is simply a logistical and organizational nightmare. It's truly a shame because the Yurmans are lovely people, but they simply are not aware of how their organization is being run. There is a weekly smoke and mirror show that gets put on for them by the very people they trust. Their HR team is one of the most unreliable and unprofessional I've encountered in my career. There tends to be a lack of cohesion among the various groups.

Pros

Working at David Yurman was a great experience overall. The pay structure and commission potential are very strong, especially for those who are motivated and good at building client relationships. The jewelry itself is good quality, which makes it easier to sell with confidence, and there is opportunity to make great money, top performing ambassadors are easily earning $110k+ annually.

Cons

While there is strong earning potential at David Yurman, the work environment can be challenging depending on the store and management. At the location I worked at, there was a high level of micromanagement and constant pressure to meet individual monthly sales quotas, even when the store was already meeting or exceeding its overall goals. This created unnecessary stress and took away from what could have been a more collaborative team environment. Because individual performance is heavily emphasized, it can also lead to a more competitive or “shark-like” atmosphere, where sales interactions feel tense as everyone is focused on hitting their numbers. Management styles were consistent, but expectations were extremely high, which can negatively impact morale and work life balance especially during peak seasons. There is also limited flexibility and, in some cases, unclear paths for advancement. While the brand and compensation structure are strong, the day to day experience can feel intense and overly performance driven, making it a difficult long term fit for some employees.
