Cons
If you have built capabilities in consulting, this is not the place for you. Know how is limited to some subjects and underdeveloped markets. Even for some "emerging market" countries, intellectual capital is not enough to deliver value. Has business in underdeveloped markets where international consulting companies avoid sending a team on the ground due to safety purposes. Therefore you might easily find yourself working in war zones, listening to bullet noise. It's not an international company, rather it can be considered a Spanish/Catalan one. As a result, if you're Spanish/Catalan, you should definitely consider Delta as a fast track career opportunity. If not, NO, this is not the place for you. There is also strong discrimination against women. It's never said out loud but if you check management team, you'll see 2-3 women, who were rewarded and considered to be successful and they are the ones who don't look for balance in life but only push for work, do not consider having a family/kids, and have a very masculine approach in communication, actions and goals. There are many other consulting firms for women, where you can have both a successful career and a family. Staffing for women is also problematic. It's partially because of the nature of the business in Middle East (most of the business coming from Saudi for all companies in Telco practice) and also due to narrow client base of the company. Therefore women in Delta have higher tendency to end up sitting on the beach, supporting teams from the office, doing short term projects in between for different clients without an opportunity to build a long term client relationship and being punished for that in evaluation. Concepts like learning, personal development and training are completely neglected in the company. A consultant with 2 year experience, having done 2-3 projects on a topic becomes the expert and provides trainings. Yearly trainings for experienced are complete waste of time. Partners with 1 or 2 project experience on a subject becomes the subject guru. Soft skill development is not a concern at all therefore teams are managed quite badly Narrow client base, teams staffed on "star" projects advance further in their careers as long as things are going well. IF project fails to deliver value, then everyone except management is punished for that - firing, insulting people are common practices. It's ironic though, management team is usually responsible for that. No transparency - You cannot trust anyone in the company, including HR. Lots of backstabbing and lying. I witnessed an instance where people are asked to write positive comments here. It's sad but most of the positive comments are written by HR employees. Due to lack of transparency, evaluation cycle is considered as the only tool for feedback or employee communication. Face time is important – people who disappear between 8-11PM and then send e-mails to partners around 2-3AM are rewarded significantly. Furthermore, cancelling vacations, showing off and telling everyone about cancellation of birthday dinner/party due to an “urgent” business development/proposal without being asked for it, working over the weekends and practices like thinking about “what to do better/more for Delta every day” are virtue. 360 feedback mechanism does not work at all. If a partner is close to founding partner group then he is supported fully no matter what, regardless of client or employee complaints. If a manager delivers, he is empowered more and more even if he becomes the major source of churn for many employees. Employees are completely disposable. It might be partially true for most of the companies in the world but in Delta, choosing a scapegoat for any event is extremely common. Therefore, you can see partners ruining young people's careers, judging them and blaming them for any failure without taking any responsibility for their own actions. Company is performing worse compared to other years, losing its customers due to poor work delivered (proven by client market share losses) and employees due to all mentioned above.
