Pros

Wonderful members, I am truly going to miss them. They also have some fantastic employees that you are able to build amazing relationships with! The PTO is easily accrued, and the 401K profit sharing is top notch. I honestly thought I would retire with DFCU, but sadly, that changed. I would give anything to have the old DFCU back.

Cons

The changes that they are attempting to make ARE NOT beneficial to members or employees! They need to remember who keeps them in business, the employees on the front line, and they seem to have forgotten that. You can not diminish necessary positions within the company and not have a good explanation for doing so. Upper management is falling apart, and therefore, they are having one of the largest turnovers that I have ever seen. You will be treated like a number here, and feel like you are easily replaceable. They are taking advantage of wonderful employees, and they are loosing them by the dozens. Hopefully they will figure it out sooner rather then later before they loose the good employees that they still have left!

Deseret First Credit Union Response
5y
Thank you for your feedback! We can always improve. It looks like you worked with us for over 5 years, which is phenomenal and I'm sorry that we lost you. I would welcome you to contact me at your convenience to give me more input as to what you experienced. I 100% agree with you that our front-line employees are the best and are so vital to our success. I respect your comments as they are personal feelings that you have. However, I would like to clarify a couple of things with some of them to hopefully give you some perspective. You had mentioned the DFCU is a sinking ship. All companies have to manage their finances well. We have successfully managed life through a pandemic and are having one of the best financial years we have had. In April, we completed our annual engagement survey with an 89% response rate and had 92% of our employees state that they are satisfied with their jobs. We have had a spike in turnover; however, it is similar to what other companies are experiencing with the current labor market. Our turnover is slightly higher than it was last year and 2020 was the lowest turnover year that we have ever had. You are correct that we have lost employees, however, we are not losing them by the dozens. Again, I am sorry that you have left and are not satisfied with your experience at DFCU. We strive to continue to have DFCU be one of the best places to work in Utah and one of the best credit unions to work for in the country, and am very open to any additional feedback that you have.

Pros

Amazing culture, good benefits, pay is decent, and you learn very important life skills. Everything I've learned here will be able to follow me through my whole life.

Cons

Feeling burnt out can come pretty quickly. From the start to the finish of each day it's go-go-go attitude, all gas no brakes. It's very fulfilling and can feel really good like you're making a difference in people's lives, but it catches up to you with how much energy and focus you're putting into your work. On top of that, your Saturday shift is 5 hours long, which requires you to take a full day off during the week to avoid OT, but that's still 3 hours difference from a full day, so you have to make that up during the week (if you want to hit 40hrs) by skipping lunch breaks, or using PTO to make up the difference, or opening/closing everyday. Creates a lot of fatigue.
