Pros
Good insurance Good retirement plan Can teach work ethic and self-discipline An environment well-suited to yes men and lemmings
Cons
Significantly intrudes into personal and family time New job duties constantly being added to fill every second of time on the clock, increasing job stress without additional compensation Physically and mentally draining, and when employees have health issues that can be directly traced to work and dare to call in sick, they are berated and treated as “traitors”. This leads to a culture of fear and intimidation, causing some employees to feel forced to work when in reality they should be getting a guilt-free day off to recuperate Micro-management of every aspect of time spent on the clock Constant berating and demoralizing under the guise of brainwashing… er, training, then more berating when employee’s performance becomes lackluster due to poor morale Very stingy with pay raises; even to get a small cost of living raise, more and more hoops must be jumped through Cronyism - promotions are often directly linked to the degree to which one gets involved in company politics and “who they know” Company preaches about the importance of family, but many times through their actions it appears the “family” they want you to care most about is your “work family” Due to scarcity of promotions and raises, it fosters an environment of intense competition and backstabbing When people dare to voice their dissatisfaction, they are bullied into silence with veiled threats to their continued employment
