Pros

That my degrees did not come from this place, and that I don't have to degrade myself working for such a disreputable employer

Cons

This is the kind of employer that thinks only of their profit. Students are profit, therefor more students and easier grading equates to their perception of success. They will schedule you for courses only a few days before the class is meant to start, meaning you have no schedule and you may not have even taught the class before. But the students won't know this is surely what they always think. But that is how little they value employees, your a spot that allows them to charge students so they can make a profit. There may not even be a shell of a class to teach from. As full time faculty you will likely have to work a split shift, because they are constantly understaffed in an effort to not pay full time teachers, that requires 13 hrs on site with an awkward chunk of hours in between to hold your life hostage. Then 5 weeks later a different random schedule slapped together by the maintenance man aka dean of culinary. The way they conduct layoffs, as frequently as they do, takes a special kind of poor management and complete lack of professionalism and basic respect. This is a bad employer. Cowardly and ignorant leadership is the backbone of this horrible university. But in their defense, they are only trying to maintain their own jobs, and they are barely able to keep the place afloat with the lack of budget I have to assume ECPI allocates for maintenance and staffing. It's run like a bad restaurant willing to risk the health of customers, not like an educational institution with standards and ethics. The school requires a 90+% pass rate for every class, and they have to pass with higher than realistic grades. It panders to the students inexperience with real academic standards. Imagine how many students pass classes because a "teacher" has their performance based on this. A's to everyone is their kind of don't ask don't tell. The equipment is half degraded and the building is in disrepair. The emergency flood lights don't even operate, this place is a series of safety hazards. They don't pay full time employees well, they don't treat them well, and everything about the operation is sales driven. For profit means not for education. It's family owned and the nepotism runs deep. They are constantly under investigation. This is a shallow school run by unqualified people in a small area dependent on military families and their GI bills. It's predatory and obvious. There is no culinary scene in the Norfolk VA area, this just happened to be a failure of a culinary school that Johnson and Wales left behind. It has no funding, and no future. It'll wither and die thanks to Covid, but don't think that'll stop these scammers from attempting to keep things running. They are simply clinging to employment at the expense of students.

Pros

Very heavy on work/life balance. We do have some months that are "black-out" months, but we know in advance so we can plan accordingly. Holiday pay is given for holidays worked/off. DOA & ADOA are both phenomenal. They push us to our limits and past them, that's only to make us grow and to be a better team allover.

Cons

Pay could be more. A lot of things are out of our control, as admissions, and that's hard to have to wait for someone else. The students typically come to us throughout their program, because we've built trust with them, but we don't always have an answer for certain things because it is out of our department.
