Pros

You get to work with some pretty cool people in a fairly laid back environment. You're also in one of the best environments you could ask for if you want to learn more about climbing.

Cons

The upper management tends to pinch pennies when it comes to supporting low-level workers (e.g. capping hours at 39 so they don't have to pay benefits, minimum wage pay, a cap on raises, pushes sales without rewards, etc.) and tend to put too much pressure on directors/assistant directors for things they can't necessarily control. It seems like some of that is changing more recently.

Pros

Staff is great to work with, and the managers are very accommodating. They are flexible with schedules, and they want to help you achieve your goals. There are so many benefits to being staff here, including discounts on gear, discounts with other local businesses, and fun staff outings.

Cons

There is limited room for growth, long term. Short term it is easy to move up to new positions, but there are a limited number of full time positions that could support a person. It's a great intermediate job though, most of the staff are part time and are either students or have other jobs.
