Pros

One would say they offer perks such as free breakfast, unlimited drinks and snacks and a modern office space but that ends there

Cons

Management is vastly incompetent. It is clear that managers either got there through tenure (because they may have been the first person in a management role) or because they are tight with the big heads. If you pay close attention, you'll realise that none of them are worthy of their roles, eager they are there just to pacify and appease their bosses. The expectation to always be on. Those who have kids and home lives that they want to prioritise will not take to this environment kindly. It's clear the people who stay either don't have kids and commitments outside work, or prioritise work over their home lives. When these folks are in manager roles, then you have this expectation that everyone needs to love for work. The general vibe is also expectant that you should feel grateful to be employed by them as they believe they are the best. Some would say they pay very well, but not in my case. Very male dominated, with a clear bro/boys culture. You will very likely be in meeting rooms full of guys and hear misogynistic comments.

Pros

The pay is genuinely absurd for Australia. We're talking US market rates, not "competitive for Melbourne" rates. There's a big difference and once you've experienced it you can't really go back. I've got mates at the big banks and consulting firms and the gap is wild. Beyond that the work is actually good. You're not babysitting legacy systems or sitting in planning ceremonies all day. There are real problems to solve and you get actual ownership over them. Nobody is micromanaging you, they just expect you to deliver and if you do, you get more responsibility pretty quickly. The people are good too. Everyone is switched on and actually wants to be there. That sounds obvious but it makes a huge difference day to day. No one is phoning it in.

Cons

It's not a relaxed environment. If you want to leave at 5 every day and fully switch off, this probably isn't your spot. The pace is high and there's always more to do. Personally that suits me but worth knowing.
