Pros
Work is generally easy once you learn the basics. Weekends off (generally). They are pretty flexible with scheduling. Somewhat low barrier to entry with training provided.
Cons
Poor/absent management - For the first months, management will be generally involved in training. After a month or two, employees are left to their devices, and management basically disappears/becomes less helpful. Absent/Ineffective HR - The HR person can be challenging to get a hold of at times. Conflicts are acknowledged but do not get solved or addressed to resolution. Most HR issues involving documents or clerical errors are outsourced and take longer to handle than other companies. Hostile Coworkers - More than half of the employees I encountered regularly were passive-aggressive, somewhat rude, or generally hostile towards others and myself. Some examples include but are not limited to literal yelling at “lower-level” employees, management outright ignoring and avoiding employees, Most Chemists being unwilling and noticeably inconvenienced when asked for help from non-chemist employees, and Management at satellite labs being reluctant to work with central lab employees. HR and management have admittedly been aware of these issues for a while, but none have really been addressed beyond the classic “ we’ll look into it.” Maybe the necessary experience and qualifications for conflict resolution aren't there. Chemists need to be more patient with non-chemist employees. It's important to recognize that everyone has different areas of expertise. While chemists may have specialized knowledge in their field, non-chemists bring their own unique skills and experience to the table. They should not be made to feel inept for not knowing the chemistry side of things . Unapproachable leads and management - Unlike most other places I’ve worked, The management at Edge has been some of the least helpful. If you ask questions, you get dismissive/unhelpful answers or incorrect information that ultimately gets blamed on you. High expectations for the amount of pay - This company falls behind on compensation compared to other similar jobs in the area. Not POC friendly- The following isn't just my experience but also from talking to my fellow coworkers. Comments were made that are generally accepted to be insensitive towards people of color. Comments in regards to people's immigration status, unkind remarks towards people of indigenous descent, and degrading statements about people from developing countries. These comments were made by people in higher positions of the company with familial/church relations to the HR department and ownership. To my knowledge, these comments were partly responsible for three employees leaving the company within a month, and all are POCs. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but they should remain professional. Unprofessional work environment - Overall, there is a complete disregard for professionalism and complete ignorance towards dealing with the employees this company knowingly allows to be extremely rude towards others with no justification. Reviews are missed, there is little employee appreciation, and Clients are to be made happy at all costs, even if it is at the employee's expense. I was also told there would be no overtime work/pay on my first day, yet I rarely got to leave on time when my shift ended.
