Pros

eHana is an awesome place to work. They believe in treating people like adults and, as an engineer, I really felt like my work was valued and I had a good deal of room to make engineering decisions. I think one of the biggest pros (from a culture standpoint) is that they really don't have a lot of room for curmudgeonly engineers. This can be problematic for engineers that have made it through their career/life without developing social skills but, retrospectively, I think it's one of the best parts of working there as an engineer. I was pretty bad when I started, but I learned so much about working with non-technical stakeholders, and that was awesome. From a work-life balance perspective, the vacation policy is awesome. They are really good at working remotely. Tons of people have young kids and are frequently in and out of the office, which is awesome. People do all sorts of cool stuff with their time off, which is also awesome.

Cons

It is a small company where there isn't a lot of runway to be a button-pusher. You will need to think critically about what you do and constantly try to improve. It's also not a culture of unconditional positivity, which can be a con if you are the type of person that does not do well in "tell-it-like-it-is" environments. Everything is up for debate/criticism, which can be both amazing and crippling. They have had problems with lack of people management and communication kind of stuff in the past. The values and bones of the culture are really good, but they aren't good at doing it deliberately yet.

Pros

They paid me, but not really on time or conveniently (check didn't arrive until the 10th once). I was provided with several nice monitors. They provided lunch once a week. What does it say I had to list "being paid" as a pro?

Cons

Absolutely no communication or on boarding. Was handed three sheets of paper to work off of. Never got a login to the work tracking system, never got a login to the build server or anything else. It was weeks before they realized I wasn't on their Slack. Not involved in any planning, requirements, or design meetings, and no effort to integrate me or my project into the work flow. Nevertheless, I managed to build a functional product. Then the company went through a reorganization (in a 20 person org), and they asked me to give them a few weeks. After dodging me for weeks, they finally admitted that there was no place me for there but only after I went back to simply collect my stuff (it had been like 5 weeks) and basically forced them to acknowledge my repeated requests for information.
