Pros
As with any working role, you have the opportunity to meet and learn from amazing people, and that was definitely the case at Elevance. Those teammates that were so amazing helped offset the other challenges.
Cons
New-ish return to office policy puts some employees in a uniquely bad scenario. Requirement is to return to office if you live within 50 miles of an office location. They also categorize their office locations into a traffic light system and associates are only allowed to go into Yellow and Green locations, with exceptions for Yellow in some circumstances. If an associate lives within 50 miles of a Red coded office, they are not allowed to go to that location unless they're in a certain division or department. I live within 50 miles of 2 locations I am not allowed to go to. Because of this status I was ineligible for transfer laterally, or promotion, because I could not meet the new requirements to return to office. No one would put that in writing, but it was the end result I experienced. This was the last proverbial straw for me - I was made a 'lame duck' so I looked elsewhere. I knew when joining Elevance several years ago that it was a large company who would have to then possibly treat associates as a number. I didn't notice that initially, but in the last year, I really felt like a number, or maybe even less than that. Also, annual merit increases did not factor in inflation during a time of record inflation, even though the company continued to succeed financially according to all measures.
