Pros
I don’t usually write reviews, but after 10 years with Emerald Search Partners, it felt worth sharing my experience—especially because this is a career (and a company) that doesn’t always fit neatly into a quick snapshot. I actually started with Emerald Search Partners as a temp candidate. I was a late-in-life college graduate (45 at the time) thinking I wanted to become a paralegal. Instead of putting me in a box, they saw potential I wasn’t even sure how to define yet. They placed me in temp roles that gave me exposure to the legal field and helped me build confidence and direction. About a year and a half into their business, they asked me to come in on a 30-day temp assignment as a receptionist/admin while they figured out whether to expand that function internally. Thirty days later, they asked me to stay—and that changed everything. From there, I was trained daily, supported consistently, and—most importantly—treated like a collaborator, not just support staff. My ideas were heard (even the occasional “swing and a miss” ones), and I was given space to grow alongside a fast-moving, evolving business. When I explored becoming a recruiter, they didn’t push—they educated. They walked me through the realities: compensation, expectations, the pace, the pressure. At the time, I chose to stay in my lane—but they didn’t forget about me. They continued to give me opportunities to stretch, including stepping into sourcing responsibilities while a teammate was on maternity leave. Then life happened. I had to step away unexpectedly due to a serious medical issue. Not only did they support me—they went beyond what was legally required to make sure I had the time I needed to recover. That kind of support isn’t something you forget. When I returned and was finally ready to make the leap into recruiting, they backed me fully. I was trained, encouraged, and trusted to develop my own style. I’ve been celebrated for my wins, supported through my mistakes (yes, even the expensive ones), and never made to feel like anything was being held over my head. Are there hard days? Absolutely. This is recruiting. We’re dealing with people’s livelihoods, careers, and major life decisions—often in real time, with competing timelines and high stakes. It requires responsiveness, resilience, and a level of urgency that doesn’t always fit neatly into a 9–5 box. And that’s okay—because not everyone wants that, and not everyone should. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a role that turns off at the end of the day. But for those who thrive in a fast-paced, people-first, high-impact environment, this work can be incredibly meaningful. And that’s the trade-off: it’s not always easy, but it is purposeful. What has kept me here for a decade is simple—I have never worked anywhere that I’ve felt more genuinely cared about as a person. My growth (both professional and personal) has always mattered here. Even when I explored leaving to pursue an HR path, they supported me fully—writing a glowing recommendation and welcoming me back with open arms when I returned, even expanding my role to include team development. At the end of the day, this is a team that works hard, moves fast, and expects a lot—but also invests deeply in its people, celebrates success, and shows up when it matters most. And for me, that has made all the difference.
Cons
If you’re looking for a predictable, structured 9–5 where everything waits until Monday morning…this probably isn’t it. Recruiting moves quickly, and sometimes that means taking a call a little earlier or later than planned. For the right person, that’s part of the energy of the job—but it’s not for everyone.
