Business outlook
Pros
As an Environmental Engineer, employees have lots of freedom to change programs (e.g., air quality, water quality, hazardous waste). Within programs, employees can direct your skills toward a particular interests such as work on the U.S. border, inspections, permitting... No on expects 60 or 80 hour work weeks. Employment for the federal government in general is stable, meaning no mass layoffs.
Cons
It is a government agency and has a lot of bureaucracy. Salaries start lower than you'll find in the private sector, and never do catch up.
