Pros
Challenging work, ability to work independently if you have the focus.
Excellent people to engage and solve problems, like a family.
Cons
I had great managers, but by shear luck (came from other industries, not cement)! Most management is not trained or qualified to actually develop people. Career advancement is a challenge and you have to fight "good ol' boy" network. Very little accountability and misaligned goals led to many people "slacking" on making Essroc as successful as it could have been.
Lehigh-Hanson management did a horrible job with HR on the acquisition. Many still do not have answers as to their fate with the company, and those that took positions are now disadvantaged with demotions and taking their careers backwards.
I am thankful that I escaped even if someone with no experience got my job because it made the most political sense.
