Pros
-Managers are generally agreeable and helpful.
-Unclaimed leave rolled over when I joined but is unlikely to for future years.
-Time off is pretty flexible.
Cons
-No realistic pathways for timely career or pay progression.
-The pay increase we got a while ago was below inflation and a one-off increase, not a regular consideration.
-Relatively high turnover of staff since everyone in entry-level positions clearly and rightly see the role as a springboard for other roles.
-Workload varies considerably day to day; sometimes not enough hours in the day and on other days I have literally had 20 minutes of work.
-Very monotonous workflow.
-Generic insufferable 'corporate culture' run by HR cat ladies.
-Journal is generally very low quality, so if you're someone who finds fulfilment by taking pride in their work this probably isn't for you - F1000Research is less of an academic journal and more of a pre-print server with some customer service.
