Pros
If you ignore the old-timers the pay is good. Work pace can be slow Great amount of time off Awesome work/life balence
Cons
This is a big train that doesn't turn on a dime. There is about six levels of red tape surrounding everything. The government can be a model of inefficiency. Constant leadership changes (Love or hate your manager...Don't get use to them. They won't be here long). Inconsistent oversight... Nothing matters here...Until it matters. So many rules that nobody can possible follow all of them. Even some rules that contradict other rules. (Designed for them to always have a reason to remove you if they needed to....Rarely happens though) Workload is massive. New hires can't be productive until 2nd year on the job. In the meantime...You'll be doing everything. Everything is always documented...Paperwork is 90 percent of your job. You can save the day here and still be disciplined because you failed to write it down correctly. Opportunities to advance are limited unless you want to relocate. Training is all in OKC...Kiss your family goodbye for 2 years when you first hire in (Unless your single....Then enjoy the vacation). If you work in Environmental...be prepared to have everything dumped on your desk (If management doesn't know what to do with it...It's environmental).
