Pros

Strong technical and research teams across different departments; this technical profile also helps you strengthening the quality of your deliverables to meet the required standards; good exposure to different nationalities/cultures and thematic areas of work that give you a holistic view of the latest thinking and trends in food security and agriculture.

Cons

Consultants rarely get a chance to be promoted with professional contracts, even after so many years of service; consultancy contracts do not provide for maternity leave; consultants end up doing most of the job, but little recognition; not great if you want strong programme/operational experience.

FAO has around 80% of its employees on short-term, unstable contracts that offer no job security.
