Cons

Management support in own department was inconsistent and they bore grudges. So think very carefully before escalating any concerns about poor colleague behavior. Hard work and initiative was not understood or appreciated. Was told at interview that this is a challenging role, and that was endlessly referred to afterwards as a means of shutting down discussions they did not want to have. Poor behaviour by some made it harder to do the work, yet that didn't prevent management setting very challenging timelines for roll out. That and other things demonstrated I was effectively on my own in an organisation that was new to project management let alone change management. Colleagues readily cancelled meetings at the last minute or didn't attend because they invariably had better things to do. That's despite very poor IT system adoption levels 18 months after a roll out in just a part of the company. Senior leaders said the right things but then some resented being asked to send a staff 1 email (introducing the initiative and key information for staff to know) apparently asking them to do that was "too directive." The company was being bought out at the time and hopefully they will now be more focused. Got the impression they saw the role as more grass roots level with no need to trouble senior management. Felt like working in a previous employer 15 years ago in terms of knowledge and understanding of what change management is. I.e. before you could 'do' any change management you had to 'educate' all at every step of the way but people there were sceptical/ barely listening. Burn out territory.
