Pros

Depending on the agency you support, the work is fairly easy. Most employees at the federal sites are knowledgeable and can make great mentors. Don’t bring any work home with you (great work life balance). If you work at a federal agency long enough (3-5 years) you’ll definitely have an opportunity to apply to a federal position.

Cons

Little to no communication with management. All of your training and instruction come from the agency you support. Unfortunately there is no growth opportunity with most FSA positions. They will offer a few thousand extra a year, but don’t expect any promotions. FSA stopped employee 401k matching without notice during 2021, and restructured their leave policy to, “encourage more use.” This new leave policy ensured you wouldn’t get paid out for PTO accrued due to it no longer being vested. It appears management has struggled with long-term financial planning (blamed on COVID) and has had to cut back on employee benefits as a result.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review. Due to the nature of our contracts, most training and instruction will come from the customers we support. This ensures we are providing the services the customer expects regardless of agency or location. However, FSA does offer a robust catalog of online training courses designed to give our employees opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge. Like many companies during the pandemic, we needed to make some changes in order to ensure the long-term health of the company and a proper work-life balance for our employees; many of these changes were temporary and we are pleased to say that FSA is as strong as ever.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you experienced a healthy work-life balance and felt supported by your management team. As a government contractor, career advancement can be limited by the positions ordered by our customers; however, we actively support employee growth through a variety of professional development opportunities and we encourage employees to apply for higher-level roles when they become available. We welcome continued feedback and invite you to connect with your FSA Senior Manager to see how we can further support you on your career journey.
