Pros

great coworkers, opportunity to expand your fabric knowledge, opportunity to connect with creatives that volunteer and shop there

Cons

fabscrap is a great and necessary idea with a poor execution. a review on here titled "unfortunately typical non profit" made me raise an eyebrow as i started my working there. after my time there, i can unfortunately confirm that everything they said is true. fabscrap's poor management is evidenced by their high turnover rate (i saw at least 6 people leave during my time there. their public annual reports show an almost entire new staff every year). most employees are not paid much above minimum wage, and a lot of the work is very physical, way above what is stated in the job description. there is no reason people should be having back pain from their job. the unsustainable model of growth the other reviewer spoke about has resulted in an overpacked warehouse that felt overwhelming and uncomfortable. a big part of the job becomes maneuvering through clutter and figuring out where to put the intake. this is a result of years of bad decision making by management and ignoring the concerns of employees, as they seemingly ignored those of the previous reviewer's cohort. concerns were brought up to management during my time there and they claim to be working on it. i do hope fabscrap succeeds in its mission. however, without treating workers with respect, paying them what they deserve, providing a safe work environment, and making their time and efforts worth while, any "mission", in my opinion, is erased.

Pros

Really enjoyed my internship with Fabscrap, cool location in Brooklyn army terminal also. And there are company cats!

Cons

Executive management neglects the interns a bit

Pros

They do give you a $100 stipend to cover travel, and you get to take home lots of free fabric. It's perfect for those with an interest in fashion, merchandising, and sustainability.

Cons

They do have you working a full job and do not pay you for your hours worked or offer you housing. Also, I applied for many positions at the company after I left the internship and was only interviewed for one. So, the opportunity to work there further is limited after you leave.
