Pros

They got me a clearance.

Cons

Working with Farfield Systems, Inc. was one of the most MISERABLE employment experiences of my life! Farfield found my resume online and called me to set up a phone interview. They gave me a vague description of my duties, but, for reasons beyond all understanding, they could never provide me with a formal job description, with the job title turning out to be a total misnomer. After I passed the interview, I was told I would have to wait for a 2-week background check. Farfield assured me it would not take anywhere near a month to complete. Rubbish! A 2-week background check turned into a 2-MONTH security clearance investigation for a security clearance, which they never told me was required. Due to the incompetence of HR, I had to submit my paperwork 3 times, which also slowed down the process. When I was finally given a start date, nobody told me I had to bring two forms of identification AGAIN to get my fingerprints taken AGAIN so that I could finally get my badge. As a result, I had to go home WITHOUT PAY and come back the next day. The benefits by the way were unimpressive, with Farfield paying none of the health care premiums, and none of the transportation costs to DC. I ended up getting health care on my own, which was a lot cheaper than what they were offering. Work proved sorely disappointing. To start with, there was almost nothing to do. During my time there, I must have worked an average of 30 minutes per day, not because I was lazy, but because I was given almost no assignments! Furthermore, IT problems were a nightmare, with my account being disabled TWICE! When I could get work done, it was mostly online research for teaching materials related to cybersecurity. To top off my frustration, the environment was run by a host of older ex-military people, so I often felt left out. They were also extremely condescending towards me, with people calling me "kid" and being "impressed" when I referenced Futurama! To put the icing on the cake with all this incompetence, I was told I had been dismissed from the contract AFTER JUST ONE MONTH! They never gave me a reason, but just threw me out of the building without warning one day, refusing to give me any explanation. All I was told was it had nothing to do with my performance. The CEO told me he would try to find out what happened, but, later when I e-mailed him to follow up, he never even responded! In summation, DO NOT WORK FOR FARFIELD! They misrepresent the job and on-boarding process, you just encounter IT problems and condescending attitudes at work, and you could very well receive a layoff notice after just a few weeks! Know that Farfield will always put the interests of their shady business partners far ahead of you, the easily dispensable sucker of an employee. I am sorry that I took a job with Farfield Systems, Inc, and I hope no one else makes my mistake after reading this.

Sorry to hear that your experience with us was miserable. Unfortunately, we don't have control over the security process when it comes to someone's security clearance. The need for a clearance was (still is) advertised and is a requirement for work at that location. Also, you didn't work with Farfield people. All of the circumstances you mention were with government employees or employees of the Prime contract holder. The "paperwork" that you submitted 3 times wasn't to HR. It was the e-QIP paperwork for your clearance that was done incorrectly. I've often found that "work" is what you make it. I.e. if you're a hard charger and show initiative there is always plenty of work to be found. This usually leads to building confidence with your management team and then receiving more work as a result. Unfortunately, there were security concerns with your background and therefore you were removed from the agency. Due to privacy concerns, we were never told what the issue was only that you were not going to receive the clearance and were not allowed to work on the contract. At that point, there is nothing we could do. I do appreciate the advice. Some advice to you would be to be more up front with your foreign relationships when applying for cleared positions. It would save everyone a lot of heartache. Best of luck to you.

Pros

I'm a full time college student, and Farfield has been amazing working around my class schedule. Every person I've come into contact with has been extremely helpful and welcoming. I know I'm getting so much experience that will help me post- graduation. The culture is different than anything I've seen before at any other company. My onboarding process was quick and stress- free. The work I do is exciting, different everyday, and is broadening my horizons.

Cons

I have nothing negative to say.
