Pros
- Federato hires some amazing people. I was consistently impressed with the quality of people we hired and worked with. - Work life balance was manageable, if you take proactive steps. I had a great work life balance, because I showed the value I provided and was firm in my time commitments. - Can't say enough about the VP of engineering. Fantastic leader and helped propel the company forward in a great direction. Will greatly miss working with him.
Cons
- The insurance is kind of boring. Not something that Federato can change, just the reality. - Federato operates in a strange place between building a product, and doing consulting work. Small number of big customers means a lot of custom features or custom implementations. Hard to build true product when each customer is so unique. - Wrong people in certain roles. Certain roles at the company are filled with people who really don't have what it takes to fulfill that role, and sadly the company seems unwilling to look objectively at the situation and make the necessary changes. - Engineers are too isolated from each other. Projects are often given to a single engineer, so even within a sprint team, there is often a lot of segmentation between engineers, leading engineers to feeling alone to just do what they need to in order to accomplish the task. Doesn't foster a great collaborative environment, feels more like a bunch of independent contractors at times.
