Pros

-Decent pay -Close to home

Cons

-Incompetent Management at all levels -Low staff -Refusing to hire more help (claiming they have no money) -Refusing to buy tools (claiming they have no money) -Trucks sometimes take long too get fixed because they aren't paying their credit bills with parts companies (claiming they have no money. Come on guys, you've just raised your rates twice in a few months and have almost doubled your profits, whose pocket is all that money going into?) -Line department basically overruns all other departments in the union, and is only out for theirselves, their department, and could care less about the other departments in the union. -Hires unqualified people for frontline Supervisory positions -Scheduler/Planners try to act like they are your boss when they don't even work in the same department as you, and according to the organizational chart, they have noone under them. Guys, you're not anyone's boss. Stay in your cubicle and keep pressing buttons. Let the Line Supervisors supervise the linemen. -Supervisors try to force you to go way out of your job description -Former employees still have a chip on their shoulder from the last lockout/strike, creating an "it's us against them" type of environment -When getting called out after hours for emergency work, the first thing line crews do is go sit down and waste 2-3 hours eating a meal at Longhorn or anywhere else they can find open. Then they make sure they work at least 16 hours within a 24hr period, and till 3am. Due to their contract agreement, this ensures that they get the entire next day off WITH pay. It's a loophole they use to play the system. -Due to the above situation, supervisors frequently refuse to call out crews afterhours, when needed, trying to force troublemen into dangerous situations to repair lines. -Sent HR all of my paperwork over email. They replied back to the email "with the attachments" saying that they didn't get them. I kindly stated they were in pdf format in the attachments of the email they just replied to, but sent all forms again anyway. Never heard any other issue about it. Then, every couple of months my supervisor would come to me and say that HR never received such and such form from onboarding. That went on for the entire 3 years that I was there, until the final one was that they never filed my union dues paperwork, which meant dues had not been coming out of my paycheck, and I had to fork over over $3,000 out of pocket to catch back up on them. -I didn't receive my first weeks paycheck until 5 weeks after I started. I called HR and they laughed at me and stated, and I quote: "HaHaHa, you expected to get your check on time?" (Sounds like a common issue maybe?) Spoke with the union, and they were no help. The union said they could hold my check for 30 days (which they did, even though they paid me every other week after on time). PA law is 15 days. Such poor ethics. -My onboarding training was never scheduled and I had to wait 4 months to take it. Until then, I was considered "unqualified", and couldn't work on any equipment above 50v. I was basically in limbo just wasting company time and money. Every time I asked them about the training they gave me the runaround and seemed to have no interest in getting me the training so that I could do the job they hired me for. -After implementing their new FWRD system, my checks were messed up nearly every other week. I had to constantly contact the clerk to fix it. From what I understand, everyone's checks were constantly messed up. It's almost like they wanted me to quit. I have worked for 12 different line companies, and this was the very worst. I wouldn't wish this place on my enemies. My son is going into linework and I am making sure he steers clear of this place. I can't believe I left a Foreman's position, with a pickuo and fuel card, making $82 an hour with impeccable benefits, to work for this place. I did it for my children, to be close to home, but oh well, the past is the past. I eventually quit due to health reasons. For anyone thinking about working for this company, take note of the above. I didn't exaggerate this experience one bit. There were so many other small things that happened as well.

Pros

FirstEnergy is a big company with a lot of growth that I've seen firsthand. Employees are helpful and all have the shared goals of keeping reliability of the electric grid. The pay is decent and stays competitive with the market rates as they do reviews consistently and evaluate. Its a great company that is trying to do better after misguided leads hip in the past

Cons

Some executive leadership vision is not shared with lower level employees. The recent transition from WFH back to the office has left employees such as myself wondering why its not role based WFH.
