Pros

The people were really nice and the pay was good.

Cons

FloatMe is very disorganized and doesn’t have clear goals, or a clear path to achieve any goals they may have. Contractors, including myself, were hired with promises of conversion to full-time employment after 3 months, and that never happened. Additionally, there were others who had their hours reduced temporarily, but the temporarily part became permanent. Not only were they not converted to full-time employment as stated in their contract, they were also laid off. I believe the leaders are well-meaning people, but this is not a successful way to run a business—particularly in the fintech industry. If you can’t manage your own money and business, how can you possibly help your clients be more financially successful? A slew of last minute “emergency” projects came in during what ended up being my final two weeks. Very extensive projects that should be planned out and thought through properly. This resulted in long hours, being pinged late at night on Slack, with very unreasonable expectations that were not laid out from the beginning of the request. I also happened to be sick with some pretty serious health issues during the same time period. This did not matter. I now realize that these “emergencies” arose because they knew they would be laying us off. I’m not naive as to how business works, but when a company prides itself on being different and treating their employees humanely, it’s particularly offensive when they show their true colors in the end. I would caution you from accepting a job with FloatMe, especially if job security and working for a financially healthy company is important to you.
