Pros
We get to work alongside a breadth of experts from various fields of educational expertise, which fosters some exciting dynamics for cross-pollination and collaborations across internal teams and external partners. The work is fulfilling and inspiring. Benefits throughout the COVID-19 pandemic have been generous. A 4-day workweek (we sometimes meet with external partners on Fridays and weekends, since educational programs often run on Fridays and weekends) No internal emails before 8am or after 5pm (schedule send emails after 5pm). Work-life balance feels great.
Cons
Some confusion around metrics for success, which seem to be getting ironed out. There is a lot of autonomy in the work and may not fit well with folks that require a lot of direction. Not unique to foundry10, but many non-profits... it can be difficult to work with "less established" or grassroots organizations/collectives that potentially have greater needs than more established and structured institutions where we more often work and allocate our resources.
