Pros

Most of the people who work here, are passionate about their jobs and what they do. The managers just seem to be passionate about advancing themselves and their good "buddies".

Cons

If you perform a credible job, they will either not promote you because they don't want to replace you, or fire you because you threaten the less talented.

Pros

Good people to work with and definitely create friendships outside of work Good health benefits and CalPERS pension (10 years to get vested though. It used to be 5 years). If you get hired as a state employee, you are eligible for tuition fee waiver. Basically you can go back to school and they cover up to 6 or 7 units, or two courses. So if you want to go back and get your masters degree, it basically pays for itself. And it applies to any of the CSU's in California, not just Fresno State. So if there is an online program, you can use your fee waiver towards that program at the other CSU. Campus environment

Cons

Compensation can remain stagnant for long periods; there is no clear step or progression system in place Pay is generally below market for experienced professionals Limited telework flexibility (typically one fixed remote day per week for the entire IT department) Minimal opportunities for professional development, conferences, or learning new technologies Advancement opportunities appear limited Asking for a raise is such a hassle and sometimes can take a year between HR and CIO.
