Pros

Work from home. Work life balance.

Cons

I was initially drawn by our conversations during the hiring process. A company that focuses on technology to fuel its growth; I wanted to be a part of that. After almost one year in the company, I'm angry at myself for not noticing the red flags. I can only speak for myself and my personal experience within the company, so bear that in mind. There is ZERO technical management and direction. A company founded in 2007 feels like a messy startup. Some projects are incredibly over-architected, to the point they are nearly unmanageable, and knowledge about their internals is kept by a few individuals, while others are treated as legacy after a short while due to poor decision-making and development practices. DevOps culture is nowhere to be found. This was a big selling point from them, but in reality, everything is a black box put in place and handled by the operations team. Other comments mention the 'cult-like' and 'toxic positivity' culture that surrounds the company, and I have to agree with those statements. This 'delusional' message that 'we are saving the world' keeps being tossed around, and it's honestly annoying. This is a for-profit company; stop acting like it isn't. The company strategy changes SO OFTEN that it is impossible to keep up. This has a huge impact on how the development teams approach their tasks and, in turn, the quality of the deliverables. During interviews, it was pointed out that any candidate needed to have good enough knowledge of working in the cloud, with distributed systems, etc. In practice, as I mentioned before, everything is a black box, so you don't actually require any kind of 'deep knowledge' about anything in particular. As a Senior Engineer, I expected this role to be challenging and to learn a lot from it, and it has been quite the opposite. It has been a HUGE setback in my career. If anything, I feel like I 'unlearn' a bit every day that I stay here. Lastly, I feel like the future is uncertain for staff members. The decline in business and revenue, along with the constant changes in strategy and direction that only seem to target symptoms but not the root causes of issues, is a recipe for disaster, and such an environment is not comfortable to work in.
